Several months ago I began exploring painting in black and white. Skillful, delicate whites and high key areas have always been a challenge for me, but I thought this piece had some very alluring results.

In most of my work, I only sparingly use standard paint brushes, and when I do use them, visual evidence of their use is typically obscured by successive processes. I'm drawn to this piece for a variety of reasons, but one particularly distinctive aspect of this piece is the way it features thick, four-foot-long brush strokes, and the gentle gradients and fine-line-interplay they created, which I chose to preserve.
